There are several reports that Chris Collins, associate head coach at Duke, is the leading candidate for head coaching job at Northwestern. Collins is an obvious candidate. I said so last year. He grew up in Illinois. Between playing and coaching, he’s spent eighteen years at Duke, a similar academic institution to Northwestern. The problem is, he might not want the job. He’d likely take a cut in pay. Like I said last week, Northwestern hasn’t committed very much to basketball. This program could put a stain on his resume that would be very hard to remove. Athletic director Jim Phillips will have to do a good selling job if he wants Chris Collins to coach at Northwestern.
