It’s official, Chris Collins is the new head basketball coach at Northwestern. The first thing that I’dlike to say about it is, his situation is totally different than Pat Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald has had great success, but he is building on the success of Gary Barnett and Randy Walker. Collins has a lot more building to do. The new coach is now the youngest mens basketball coach in the Big Ten. He’ll be 39 in April. Since he’s a first time head coach, he should probably hire an experienced coaching staff. One guy I would suggest would be Rob Judson. Judson has been an assistant coach at Northern Illinois, Bradley, Illinois, and currently Illinois State. He was also head coach at Northern Illinois for a few years. He is well liked by the high school coaches around the state. He would be a good addition to any program. But Chris Collins knows who and what he wants for his new team, without any help from me. And I’m sure he can bring Northwestern up to the next level.
