Last Friday night, Brian Barnhart announced Illinois’ spring football game on the Big Ten Network. Barnhart has done other events for the Big Ten in the last few years, most of the time doing baseball. I hope his work with the network will continue to be sporadic. Brian Barnhart needs to stay as the Voice of the Illini, a job he has held since 2001. He is the longest serving exclusive announcer ever for Illinois. In 2008, Barnhart won the Illinois Sportscaster of the Year Award, beating out Cubs announcers Pat Hughes and Len Kasper. Brian Barnhart is the best football and basketball radio announcer in the state of Illinois. He is a great asset to the Illinois athletic program. He would be very hard to replace. I hope he stays another twenty-five years.
